Kevin Michael Smith is a New York-based Artist, Photographer and Editor, whose work explores contemporary culture, chromesthesia, and sensory experience.
Chromesthesia is a form of Synesthesia where sound is experienced visually as well as auditorily. In his ongoing series, 'Sound in Full Color', Kevin live paints his visual-auditory experience to music. Creating dynamic paintings that reflect the visual landscape of vibration that is present in music by allowing the textures and colors that he associates with sound, to inform his brushstrokes and color choices.
Inspired by the advertisements and logos pervasive in modern American culture, Kevin creates satirical Illustrations and Designs that highlight the absurdity of a society inundated with mindless advertisements and consumerism.
In his ongoing series of perspective drawings and paintings, 'Liminal Space', Kevin explores how energy and emotion interact with mundane spaces. Empty, the energy of each space remains.
Kevin studied Photography at SUNY Purchase College School of Art & Design for three years, and has over five years of experience as a Photographer; specializing in product photography, real estate photography and art reproduction.
